Innovotech began with pioneering discoveries in biofilms, which are microbes growing within communities. This led to the commercialization of MBEC Assay® kits by Innovotech and the publication of a standardized method for companies to grow biofilms reproducibly (ASTM E2799). Innovotech further developed methods to grow biofilms on nearly any surface, and now routinely works with medical device companies to help them assess their devices for anti-adherence and antimicrobial activity, including supporting their claims as part of regulatory submissions. To that end, Innovotech is able to provide highly customized testing services while operating under ISO 17025 (accredited by CALA – testing accreditation number A4146 for Enumerating Bacteria – Solids and Liquid). Many of Innovotech’s clients make medical devices such as catheters, bone and other implants or wound dressings. Innovotech also continues to develop new customizable test methods to meet clients’ ongoing needs. Innovotech has also developed a family of potent antimicrobial compounds called InnovoSIL™ silvers and is working with global partners on commercial applications of these compounds.

Building on a heritage of scientific excellence and quality focus, we recently acquired Keystone Labs, a leader in pharmaceutical testing and analytical services. This strategic acquisition significantly expanded our capabilities, enabling us to serve a wider range of industries while maintaining the high standards that define our work. Similar to Innovotech, Keystone is a boutique contract research organization, with expertise in microbiological methods. Keystone brings to the Innovotech group, new methods including rapid strain identification, analytical methods such as HPLC, a drug establishment license from Health Canada, and a history of client-focussed service that complements our existing strengths, creating a synergy that will propel the entire organization into an exciting future.

Looking ahead, Innovotech is preparing for a productive year in 2025. We intend to introduce new services that align with our clients’ evolving needs.
