Company Overview
InnoTech Alberta is Alberta’s leading research and technology organization providing innovative solutions to global challenges facing industry, business and the public sector.
InnoTech Alberta’s fermentation facility is part of the Bio Industrial Services division and was established to develop, optimize, and scale biological processes, provide toll manufacturing services and assist customers in the deployment, demonstration and commercialization of novel technology.
We are a diverse group of experienced professionals with backgrounds in microbiology, biotechnology, process development, engineering, and equipment operation. Our attention to detail and process expertise is the secret behind an enviable near perfect lack of contamination record at the commercial scale.
Major Projects:
InnoTech Alberta’s fermentation facility has been in operation for over 35 years and has worked with a broad range of organisms and processes. Having assisted hundreds of clients with a wide variety of processes, our facility has proven to be a critical resource for clients needing to demonstrate new processes at scale and for initial commercial manufacturing. We provide the expertise, experience and equipment needed for new process deployment which are usually out of reach of an individual company.
Our facility boasts an array of fermenters ranging from 20 L to 15000 L with Real-time data acquisition of standard parameters including off-gasses by mass spectrometry.
We also have a suite of DSP equipment including disc stack centrifuges, cell disruption equipment, TFF modules, freeze dryer, spray dryer and Falling Film Evaporator (solvent compatible).
We have the capability for aseptic filling of bladder bags from 0.5 L to 20 L volumes and total volume of up to 30000 L.
The facility operates 24×7 during batches and has been fully booked for services running for up to 45 weeks annually.
Major milestones:
InnoTech’s fermentation group has had major breakthroughs having successfully scaled up many commercial processes including: food and feed ingredients (DHA, ARA, EPA, Bioactive Peptides, etc.); Diagnostic Proteins; Bioinoculants; Biopesticides; Biomaterials (plastics, collagen, gelatin, etc.)
Our plant is registered with USFDA for manufacture of Animal Feed, CFIA Approved for manufacture of Animal Feed for export to the EU and registered with the EPA for manufacture of Biopesticides.
